Viz Media starts the new year with Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits

VIZ Media, LLC recently announced the upcoming release date of Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits shojo manga series, starting on January 1st.

Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast for Spirits is illustrated by Waco Ioka and features character designs by Laruha. The series, which is based on a collection of popular Japanese light novels by Midori Yuma.

In the series, Aoi Tsubaki inherited her grandfather’s ability to see spirits – and his massive debt to them! Now she’s been kidnapped and taken to Kakuriyo, the spirit world, to make good on his bill. Her options: marry the head of the inn her grandfather trashed or get eaten by demons. But Aoi isn’t the type to let spirits push her around, and she’s determined to redeem her grandfather’s IOU on her own terms!

Naoki Urasawa’s hit manga 20th Century Boys, set for new Perfect Edition deluxe volumes

VIZ Media recently announced the re-release of Naoki Urasawa’s award-winning manga 20th Century Boys as a deluxe new omnibus edition, arriving in stores on September 18th as 20th Century Boys: The Perfect Edition Volume 1.

20th Century Boys: The Perfect Edition, Volume 1 will publish exclusively in print and includes two complete volumes of the original 22-volume epic manga series in a deluxe omnibus edition featuring new cover art and select pages in their original color presentation. Volume 1 will carry a print MSRP of $19.99 U.S. / $26.99 CAN. Future Perfect Edition releases of the 20th Century Boys: series will publish quarterly.

As 20th Century Boys begins, humanity, having faced extinction at the end of the 20th century, would not have entered the new millennium if it weren’t for them. In 1969, during their youth, they created a symbol. In 1997, as the coming disaster slowly starts to unfold, that symbol returns. This is the story of a group of boys who try to save the world.

Viz Media brings A SMALL CHARRED FACE to new audiences

VIZ Media’s literary science fiction imprint, Haikasoru, will explore the domestic life of monsters in the release of A Small Charred Face, coming in September.

This new book will be the latest work by Kazuki Sakuraba, known for her previous critically acclaimed work, Red Girls: the Legend of the Akakuchibas.

In A Small Charred Face, a boy name Kyo is saved from the precipice of death by Bamboo, a vampire born of the tall grasses. They start an enjoyable yet strange shared life together, Kyo and the gentle Bamboo. But for Bamboo, communication with a human being is the greatest sin.

“Sakuraba captivated North American readers with her award-winning novel, Red Girls, and she returns with a unique new story that depicts the relationship between vampires and modern youth in A Small Charred Face,” says Nick Mamatas, Editor. “We invite readers to discover the unconventional, yet poignant and tender dynamic that develops between Bamboo and Kyo in this gripping new release.”

Author Kazuki Sakuraba was born in 1971 and began publishing while still in college. Red Girls: the Legend of the Akakuchibas won the Mystery Writers of Japan Award in 2007 and was translated into English in 2015. Watashi no otoko, a suspense novel about an incestuous relationship, won the Naoki Prize for popular fiction in 2008.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords – Legendary Edition manga set for summer release

Viz Media recently announced its fifth deluxe edition of the Legend of Zelda manga series, based on the Nintendo property franchise, set for this summer. This latest edition shall come forth on July 11th, as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords – Legendary Edition.

In Four Swords, Link finds himself broken into four different versions of himself – Green, Red, Blue and Violet Link – and pitted against a fifth, the malevolent Shadow Link who has kidnapped Princess Zelda. The Links must find the Four Sword, the only thing that can combine them so that they are strong enough to stop Shadow Link and save the princess – and the world!

The Legendary Editions adapt Akira Himekawa’s 10-volume manga series based on the classic Nintendo role-playing, puzzle-solving, action video game into a line of deluxe omnibus 2-in-1 editions that each feature new cover art and color illustrations. The earlier Legend of Zelda legendary edition includes the Ocarina of Time, Oracle of Seasons/Oracle of Ages, Majora’s Mask/A Link to the Past, Minish Cap/Phantom Hourglass. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords – Legendary Edition is the fifth release in the Legendary Edition series.

The Legend of Zelda manga series is created by Akira Himekawa, which is the pen name of two women known simply as A. Honda and S. Nagano. The pair created the manga series, inspired by several games and story arcs in the Zelda video game series. Currently, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is the latest and ongoing manga series based on the beloved Nintendo video game, with story and artwork also by Akira Himekawa.

Viz Media brings on MANGA IN THEORY AND PRACTICE, by ‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’ creator
