Becky Cloonan’s BY CHANCE OR PROVIDENCE medieval fantasy series, in TP soon

“These stories cast a spell of hypnotic melancholy, weaving their way through medieval landscapes of ancient curses and terrible truths that will haunt you long after you’ve set them down.”

Image Comics recently announced acclaimed writer/artist Becky Cloonan (Southern Cross, Batman, Gotham Academy) award-winning trilogy of short stories By Chance Or Providence, will release together in a trade paperback volume this July.

By Chance Or Providence contains “Wolves,””The Mire,” and “Demeter,” with all-new colors by Lee Loughridge, as well as a sketchbook/illustration section.

“Out of all the comics I’ve worked on, the stories in By Chance Or Providence remain some of the most personal, the closest to my heart,” said Cloonan. “I’m so happy to have the chance to publish them with Image, this time as a “director’s cut,” with lush colors by Lee Loughridge. I hope one day I can return to these characters and spend more time in this world, but until then…”

The By Chance Or Providence trade paperback arrives in comic book stores on Wednesday, July 26th, and bookstores Tuesday, August 1st.

Image Comics to release supernatural forces, in upcoming SACRED CREATURES

This July, Sacred Creatures will arrive, a new Image comics series from writer/artist Pablo Raimondi (Book of Doom) and artist Klaus Janson (Daredevil, The Dark Knight Returns).

In Sacred Creatures, supernatural forces maintaining the fragile balance of power in this world begin to unravel. At the center of it all, readers meet Josh Miller, a young college grad and expecting father, caught in the middle of a vast conspiracy threatening to tear apart the foundations of humanity. As myth and reality collide, Josh finds himself on the frontline of a battle against an enemy dating back to the beginning of time itself.

Sacred Creatures is Raimondi and Janson’s first creator-owned series, first announced recently at the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle.  The first issue is monster-size, featuring 66 pages of full-color art. There will be three covers; Cover A by Pablo Raimondi, Cover B by Klaus Jansen, and Cover C by Frank Miller (see below).

“Years in the making, Sacred Creatures is the culmination of all the things I love about comics: amazing art, compelling characters, and a story that will make readers return month after month,” said Janson. “I’m so proud of this series!”

Raimondi added: “I honestly can’t believe Klaus has put up with me for this long. It must be ’cause the book is really freaking good.”

SACRED CREATURES #1  hit comic stores and digital outlets on Wednesday, July 5th.

New pulp supernatural detective comic series BLOOD BROTHERS, coming in June

Dynamite Entertainment will release Blood Brothers, a supernatural pulp fantasy comic series this coming June

Blood Brothers is the creative work of writer Fabian Rangel Jr. and artist Javier Caba, originally promoted through a very successful Kickstarter funding campaign.

The following are the further released details….

“Diego and Gabriel Soliz are two unusual brothers just trying to do their job in an even more unusual hometown. What’s their job? They’re detectives in a city populated by creatures from mythology and fantasy. When an Aztec skull is stolen from the museum, the Blood Brothers are assigned to the case! Blood Brothers is a pulp-influenced supernatural tale with elements of fantasy, taking place in a world where the border between reality and mythology has been broken.”

Writer Fabian Rangel, Jr. says, “Blood Brothers is the story of two Hermanos de Sangre: Diego, a hard-boiled detective who can communicate with ghosts, and Gabriel, a luchador whose skin glows in the dark when monsters are about to attack. Artist Javi Caba is doing tremendous character design work in the comic, creating a feast for the eyes. I had been wanting to return to the supernatural pulp genre, and Javi loves drawing fantasy stuff, so I figured why not put them together? This series is for fans of Ray Harryhausen movies, comics like Powers, Hellboy, and Top Ten. I couldn’t be more excited to be bringing Blood Brothers to Dynamite, the home of so many awesome pulp characters. They’re the perfect home for this series. After a successful Kickstarter last year, I’m very glad we’re getting an opportunity to reach even more readers through the Direct Market.”

Blood Brothers is the comic that I’d like to read. Since the beginning, I was absorbed by the story and it was so easy to imagine this astonishing universe, full of monsters and cool characters,” says artist Javier Caba. “I love drawing all of them because I can dip into all my pop background — old-fashioned movies, novels, and EC Comics — as well as let myself flow and create them from nothing.”

Blood Brothers will release in June by Dynamite Entertainment, to comic book retailers and popular digital platforms, everywhere.
