Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology comics adaptation returns with a new volume

Recent news release from Dark Horse Comics:

The comic book adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s best-selling book, Norse Mythology, will continue from Dark Horse, this coming month of June. Eisner-winning comics writer P. Craig Russell, with artists Matt Horak (The Punisher, The Covenant), Mark Buckingham (Hellblazer, Miracleman), Gabriel Walta (Barbalien: Red Planet, Sentient), Sandy Jarrell (Archie, Meteor Men), and colorist Lovern Kindzierski (The Worst Dudes, The Sandman) will team together for the upcoming six-issue follow-up series, Norse Mythology II.

Explore the origins of poetry—good and bad—in this tale of malicious dwarfs, suspicious giants, and the wise god Kvasir, whose eventual fate leads to the creation of a powerful mead that many will fight and die for.

Also available will be a variant cover for each issue by longtime comics artist, David Mack.

“It has been an absolute delight working with the slate of artists assembled for our adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology,” says Russell in a recent DH press release. “Sending the artists the layouts and then seeing their finished pages come rolling back in, each having brought their own unique artistic vision to the page, has been great fun.”

Norse Mythology II #1 (of six) will arrive in comic shops on June 16, 2021.

The Whispering Dark creators reimagines World War II with The Secret Land

Interesting news from Dark Horse Comics…

Coming soon, from writer Christofer Emgård and artist Tomás Aira, the creative team duo behind The Whispering Dark, return to Dark Horse comics with a new, upcoming cosmic horror mini-series and fictionalized reimagining of World War II in The Secret Land.

It is 1945, and Hitler is dead. Ben and Katherine are supposed to be together, happy. Instead, Ben fights the war in the Pacific with reckless heroism, believing his fiancée to be dead. However, Katherine lives, undercover aboard a German submarine.

As Ben tries to move on, the US Navy receives a message. The Nazis are plotting their return, powered by strange and foreboding technology in Antarctica. When Ben learns Katherine is there, he knows he must go too.

As war engulfs the edge of the world, Ben and Katherine confront the truth about the boundaries of love, and what lies beyond them.

“Ever since The Whispering Dark I’ve been looking to reprise my collaboration with Tomás, and The Secret Land finally provided the perfect opportunity. This mini-series began life as a pulpy horror tale (it does have both Nazis and tentacles in it…), but at its core it’s really a story about commitment, longing and loss. I feel Tomás has conveyed this beautifully through his evocative art and I hope the readers out there will feel the same.” said Christofer Emgård in a recent press release from Dark Horse Comics.

“Chris’ amazing script hooked me from day one and I was eager to flesh out these characters and continue building this terrifying world. Bringing the Otherlands to life has a strange fascination for me, and often I find myself fearful of the very monsters I’m painting, while adorning their abominable visage with teeth-covered appendices. There’s probably no better place to set up the darkest monsters than in WW2 but this time, humanity has upped the game, I’m rooting for them as I draw them! “ adds Tomás Aira.

The Secret Land #1 (of four) arrives June 9, 2021, at the comic stores everywhere. Emgård and Aira’s previous miniseries, The Whispering Dark is available now in collected trade paperback for $17.99.

Paul Levitz is back for Unfinished Business, from Dark Horse

Recent news from Dark Horse, from this news release at darkhorse.com

Paul Levitz and Simon Fraser Explore Life After Death in “Unfinished Business”

From comics legend, New York Times Best-Selling Graphic Books writer and Eisner Award Hall of Fame inductee Paul Levitz (Brooklyn Blood, Legion of Super-Heroes) and artist Simon Fraser (Kingsman: The Red Diamond, Doctor Who) comes Unfinished Business, a tantalizing original graphic novel of dark mystery and magical realism that examines the relationship between science and society through the lenses of multiple religions.

A priest, a minister and a rabbi walk into a bar . . . a would-be lead-in to an amusing anecdote were it not for the three being dead. But this is no zombie apocalypse. The clerics have a bit of unfinished business tied to their demise that heaven needs them to address, if they can. But what is the reward for unraveling the riddle of their deaths—is it life, afterlife, or oblivion? Maybe they can ask the smiling bartender, who just might be…?

“Dark Horse has a long history of championing the uncategorizable, the unexpected, and the unorthodox. It’s a pleasure to have them taking on Unfinished Business,” commented Levitz.

Unfinished Business goes on sale in comic shops June 10, 2020, and in bookstores on June 23, 2020. You can pre-order Unfinished Business on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at your local comic shop.

Jeff Lemire spins off Black Hammer to outer space with Colonel Weird, this spring

Here’s a recent news release from Dark Horse Comics for fans the award-winning, critically acclaimed Black Hammer series, and those looking for something cosmic, and offbeat…

Jeff Lemire and Tyler Crook Explore the Strange Origins of Colonel Weird in this Spacetime Adventure

From the world of the Eisner Award-winning Black Hammer series comes a bizarre, sci-fi adventure origin story! Black Hammer writer and co-creator Jeff Lemire and acclaimed artist Tyler Crook (Harrow County, Manor Black) bring the next story from the world of Black Hammer: Colonel Weird: Cosmagog.

Wacky space adventurer Colonel Randall Weird leaves the Black Hammer farm and embarks on a strange journey through space and time for something that he’s long forgotten with his sanity and life at stake!

“Colonel Weird has been my favorite Black Hammer character since Dean Ormston and I created him. I’ve always wanted to do a series where the storytelling would echo Weird’s unique mind, and unique perspective. Tyler Crook’s work more than lives up to the challenge. This is a deep dive into Colonel Weird’s past and his future. This series will answer the question of what happened to him after the events of Black Hammer: Age of Doom.”–Jeff Lemire

“I think Jeff and Dean have created one of the most interesting and heartfelt superhero universes that we’ve seen in decades. I feel lucky to get the chance to contribute to the world. Colonel Weird is a personal favorite because he is the most human and most bonkers of the bunch. The story is full of cosmic weirdness but it’s all in the service of telling a touching, personal drama. I’m really excited for readers to see this book!”–Tyler Crook

Colonel Weird: Cosmagog #1 (of four) goes on sale April 22, 2020, and is available for pre-order at your local comic shop.

ElfQuest

Wendy and Richard Pini’s cherished fantasy epic of over 40 years, ElfQuest, continues with “ElfQuest: Stargazer’s Hunt”

The new ElfQuest series will be published by Dark Horse comics for a six-issue run, with co-creators Wendy and Richard Pini on board, and a script by Wendy Pini. Veteran ElfQuest alumnus Sonny Strait returns as the artist (over layouts by Wendy) and colorist for the new series.

When ElfQuest: The Final Quest concluded, it ended the hero’s journey of Cutter Kinseeker, chief of the Wolfriders. But that was only the start of a new adventure for Cutter’s “brother in all but blood,” Skywise. Now the stargazer elf, who thought he knew everything about Cutter, discovers how mistaken he was. That, combined with a tragic accident involving his daughter Jink, sends Skywise on a quest of his own, from the elves’ ancestral Star Home through uncharted space, and back to the World of Two Moons.

“I feel both thrilled and anxious as I hurtle into new writing territory with Stargazer’s Hunt. Always the ‘champion’s companion,’ Skywise is now a hero unto himself, questing for a prize no one could possibly guess,” said ElfQuest co-creator Wendy Pini. “While Cutter’s story arc on the World of Two Moons was meticulously planned, Skywise’s hunt encompasses all of space and time, and surprises await. Who can know what will befall him?”
