Big Girls brings new kaiju-killing fun to comic stores this August

Image Comics recently announced a new series from critically acclaimed artist Jason Howard (Trees) as the writer and artist of his new creator driven action series Big Girls. This new ongoing comic book series will launch in August.

When men become giant monsters hellbent on destroying the world, only girls can stop them—Big Girls. Meet Ember—she writes poetry, loves to read, and she’s a 300-foot-tall full-time monster killer! She and the other big girls are all that stand in the way of our world’s complete annihilation!

In an exclusive scoop on the Big Girls announcement with The Hollywood Reporter, Howard said of the series: “[this is] the perfect comic for both the dynamic sci-fi I like to draw and for my writer side to examine questions of power, inequality and the complexity of growing up.”

Big Girls #1 will be available in print at comic book shops and digitally through popular reading apps on Wednesday, August 12.

Here’s a short preview in the meantime. Enjoy!

Rob Liefeld is set to take G.I. Joe’s Snake Eyes to the extreme in 2020

gi Joe

IDW has recently announced a surprise for G.I Joe comics fans, with news of comics creator legend Rob Liefeld bringing his stylish brand of art to the G.I. JOE comics franchise in 2020.

Snake Eyes: Deadgame, coming in early 2020, will mark Liefeld’s first G.I. JOE story.

Details of the storyline remain under wraps for now, but the legendary creator promises the most action-packed epic of his career.

“Two words: ‘BUCKET LIST,’” says Liefeld in a recent press release, “One more word: ‘ICON.’ Snake Eyes is Wolverine, Deadpool, and Spider-Man rolled into one amazing character for an entire generation of fans that thrilled to his adventures in comics and cartoons and hung on his every toy release! My parents drove me all over the county to get me G.I. JOE action figures as a kid. These were my first and most favorite toys. Working with Hasbro and all my friends at IDW has been a blast so far. I can’t wait to get this work out into the public! If you enjoyed my recent Marvel work,” Liefeld continues,” this will match or exceed it!”

“The high-octane, adrenaline-fueled action and adventure Rob brings to every comic he creates is a perfect fit for Snake Eyes, and we’re all as excited as you are to see him really cut loose on the pages of this very special G.I. JOE series!” adds Chris Ryall, IDW’s President & Publisher/Chief Creative Officer.

Snake Eyes: Deadgame is set to arrive in early 2020, in comic stores and popular digital apps everywhere.

Robert Kirkman’s announces his new series DIE!DIE!DIE!, released today!

New news from Image/Skybound Entertainment, as famed writer Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Outcast, Oblivion Song) unleashes a new series, in collaboration with Scott M. Gimple (Punisher: Nightmare, writer and producer for The Walking Dead TV adaptation on AMC), and Chris Burnham (Batman Incorporated, Nameless,  Officer Downe), with colors by Nathan Fairbairn and lettering by Rus Wooton. The title is DIE!DIE!DIE!, and set for release today.

DIE!DIE!DIE! promises to be a blood-soaked, no holds barred, action-packed, irreverent story that fans won’t be able to rip their eyes from. We live in an evil world where evil people do evil stuff all the time and DIE!DIE!DIE! lifts the veil on a secret cabal within the United States government that influences world matters through targeted assassination. The world around us is manipulated right under our noses, mostly for the better… but sometimes for individual gain, and sometimes for the fun of it.

As to why on the sudden release date, here on words on it from yesterday’s press release:

“That’s right, in stores TOMORROW! We want to make going to a comic shop exciting again—a place for discovery! The internet has drained all surprise and anticipation from comics. Everyone hears about exciting new projects and then has to wait months or years for it to be in their hands… and half the time at the end of that buildup, the stories get spoiled in some lame attempt at getting wider media attention,” Kirkman dissed. “So, surprise! Here’s a new monthly series. How cool is that?! This is literally the only way I can be like Beyoncé.”

Gimple added: “I spend most of my time working in TV, the big Walking Dead programs keep me plenty busy, but I’ve had a burning passion for comics since I was nine. I used to go to panels to see Robert Kirkman talk. And now he’s writing quotes in a press release as me that I can read over and tweak!”

“We cooked up all sorts of great action sequences and horrific gross-out gags for this book,” said Burnham. “Maybe we should have called it Puke!Puke!Puke!”

So if you’re hurting people, somehow making the world worse than it already is, or even just standing in the way of something good happening… someone could right now be giving the order for you to… DIE!DIE!DIE!

So there you go. At your local retail comics store now, unless they didn’t order enough.

Homeless ninja heroine STREET ANGEL returns this October

Jesse “Street Angel” Sanchez knows the pressure of being the girl who always saves the day. It’s just who she is. Is this an extraterrestrial plot to destroy their middle school friendship or a gift from above that Jesse can pawn for a hot dog?

This October, Eisner Award-winner Jim Rugg (The Plain Janes, Afrodisiac), Brian Maruca (Afrodisiac), and Image Comics present the biggest, most epic Street Angel yarn yet in Street Angel: Superhero for a Day
